Not So Easy

Note: I have been working feverishly, or at least sporadically, on my very first book which is coming out this spring from Howling Hills Publishing. I have, I realized, neglected this poor site and all 5 of my poor readers. Here’s a little morsel to hold you over.

Tone it down, Lionel.

This Sunday morning, it dawned on me for the first time that in the song, “Easy” by The Commodores, Lionel Richie is feeling so easy because he is telling his lady that he is leaving her…tomorrow.

I don’t know how many Sundays I have made pancakes to this song and not realized that’s how it starts out, but here we are. And I have some thoughts.

First: harsh, dude. I get that getting out of an oppressive relationship can be liberating, but maybe don’t sing to the girl about it as it’s happening

Second, this is a Dateline episode waiting to happen. Not only are you twirling around like what’s her name in the Sound of Music, singing about how high and free you’re going to be once this girl is out of your hair, you’re apparently doing it one day before you’re actually planning on being that free. Anyone who’s watched even one eighth of the Dateline I have knows this is a huge mistake. You NEVER stay in the house if you’re leaving. Ever. Ever ever. I haven’t conducted clinical studies, but the  odds of getting killed in your sleep by a spurned lover are about 50 percent less if you’re staying in a Motel 6 somewhere he or she knows absolutely nothing about.

Be smart and live to be Alive like Monday Morning.
